ABSENCE REQUEST

Children attending school full time is very important for their well-being and education.  Research shows a link between low attendance and lower levels of achievement, therefore good attendance and punctuality are vital for success at school and to establish positive life habits that are necessary for future success.  For those times when attendance is not possible due to illness, we ask parents to follow the process outlined below:

Reporting an Absence - if your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please email or phone the school office rather than leaving a message with the class teacher, who may have lots of messages to remember.  This way, we can ensure all absences are recorded correctly by 08:45.  Please note that if your child is absent from school and we do not receive a message or are unable to reach you on the phone, we are obliged to follow up with a home visit to check on your child's safety and well-being.  Please ring or email each day of absence, unless by prior arrangement with the office eg: in the case of chickenpox or sickness where a set number of days at home maybe required.  If parents are unsure about whether a child who has an illness should attend school, the NHS page opposite has some useful advice.

Please note - children must be 48 hours clear of sickness or diarrhoea before returning to school.

Medical Appointments - If it is necessary to take your child/ren for an appointment during school hours, they must be collected from the school office and an Absence form completed, with evidence of the appointment.  No child may leave the school premises unaccompanied for a medical appointment.  If you wish to arrange an absence for a medical appointment please email the school office - school@christthekingprimary.co.uk or telephone 01454 866680.  An Absence Request in Term Time form must be completed for every planned absence from school.  All absence requests will be considered on a a case-by-case basis and only authorised in exceptional circumstances.

Absence Requests in Term Time - A family must submit an Absence Request form at least 20 days prior to the proposed absence.  It will be for the Head Teacher to make a decision as to whether there are exceptional circumstances that will allow them to grant the time off.  Do not assume that the absence will be granted until you have received confirmation from school.  If the decision to unauthorised the leave of absence is upheld and parent still decides to proceed with the absence, the Local Authority may issue parents with a £80 penalty notice per child, per parent (£80 if paid within 21 days or £160 within 28 days).  Please visit the School Office if you require a paper copy of our Absence Request Form or click here.  A copy of our Attendance Policy can be found by clicking here.
